Davidson , Associate Business Manager of the University, spoke before the Thursday ,Sept. 8', meeting of the U of L Student Senate. His topic was the parking problem. Dan Keller, Director of the Department of Public Safety, after waiting patiently for an hour and a half, left without speaking. Questions and answers were exchanged between Davidson and various senators, but no solution to the considerable parking problem was reached. It was suggested that students who made use of carpools should be given preferential parking, but again no conclusion was made.' The Speed Student Council announced at the Thursday meeting that they were working on· a new Speed School Arbitration Board, the purpose of which would be to decide if teachers had treated students fairly. · Barbara Comstock, the Senate's Academic vice-president, announced to the body that she was at work on a committee whose ultimate purpose is to set up guidelines for various U of L coJleges to follow when they write up their Academic Master Plan (for the next ten years). Jana Buress, an A&S sophomore, gave a report on the Health Planning Committee. This Committee is interested in knowing what kind of health services students want, what students want these health services to include, and whether they feel a health fee should be voluntary or mandatory. ' Several motions were passed at the Thursday meeting. The Senate approved the Speed Student Council's Constitution. It endorsed the idea of an intramural football game between U of L and U of K. Also passed was a motion' which stated that the Student Senate should "investigate the possibility of purchasing a fast food franchise as a source of revenue." :How this purchase would be financed was not discussed. Greg Price, Student Senate vice-president in charge of Services, submitted a proposal to the Senate about "Recreation Facilities." 'Price's proposal suggested that the game room should be moved to the present student lounge and then be carpeted, and equipped with recreational equipment and piped-in stereo music. Furthermore, the current Family Lounge should be carpeted and equipped with color television for students. Price's proposal also stated that the bookstore not be allowed to expand into the Dean of Student's office. One Senator brought up the fact that the whole proposal was contingent on an immediate move of the University College from the UC building. Subsequently, voting on the proposal was postponed. DiBella did not elucidate any further on the nature of the alleged misconduct. He also thanked various senators who had aided him in the task of alphabetizing registration cards, which, DiBella says, "hopefully will allow the phone books to get out before next semester." Vets meet by Jim McGovern The initial organizational meeting of the newly formed Veterans' Club was conducted last week in the University Center Lincoln Room. Approximately 50 veterans gathered to discuss the desirability and feasibility of forming a campus organization directed specifically at meeting the needs of the some 1300 vets attending U of L. It was generally decided that since over 10% of persons attending U of L are veterans, an organization representing this large minority is needed. It was noted by temporary co-chairmen Bill Simon and Hank Stanfield that "many Kentucky colleges already have active veterans' gmups that participate in such campus activities as student government and intramural sports." In line with that purpose, it was decided to initiate an intramural football team and to urge members to run for office in the upcoming A&S Student Council elections.
