Square Dancing, Round Dancing, Food, and Singing Will Highlight The First University "Open House'' Candidates for Homecoming Queen must be full-time students of the university, in their sophomore year, and have at least a one point standing. Every organization with women members may put up a candidate. However, <mly one candidate may be sponsored by any one organization. All candidates must submit a letter of application, stating :the sponsoring organization, scholastic standing, campus activities, and reasons they desire the position of Homecoming Queen of the University of Louisville. These applications must be submitted no later than noon, Friday, October 12, to the Dean of Women's Office. Any appLication submitted af.ter this time will not be accepted. The court, consisting of five members, will be elected by popular vote, using the one vote system, of the university students. This voting will take place on Tuesday, October 23, from 9 am. until 3 pm. in the Women's Building on Belknap Oa.mpus. The final selection for Queen will be made by the football team at noon, October 25. All candidates must have their pictures made after their applications are accepted. These pic-tures will be used during the voting. House decoration requirements are as follows: All moving parts must be mechanical, to operate unattended. There may be no person in the display. No professional help may be enlisted, and lighting and sound are optional. All decorations must be completed by 7 pm. Friday, Novem· ber 2, and must remain undisturbed until 9 am. Saturday, No· vember 3. The judging will take place at 7 pm. Friday, November 2, and the awards will be presented during the intermission at the Homecoming Dance. All decorations will be judged on original.ity, col• Or, beauty, lighting, moving parts, sound and slogan. All entries must be submitted to the Dean of Women's office by noon, Tuesday, October 23. No entries will be accepted after that time. SeveMl special rules governing the paying members of Panhellenic Council have also been in- · eluded. The set price for each member of Panhellenic will be for.ty dollars of actual money spent, and .there may be no moving parts, mechanical ot otherwise. Next Wednesday night, all schools of the University have been extended an invitation to the Music School "open house", called the "Harvest Moon Festival." The program will run from eight until eleven, and will be held art Gardencourt, where Music School is located. Special featu~es of the evening will be square dancing. round dancing, a bonfire, and food. Reminders of the event and maps of how to get to Gardencourt in Cherokee Park may be found all over campus and in the professional schooLs. This is the first time Music School has ex• tended the invitation to the entire university to attend their annual fall .get-together. "Swing your partner" will be the cry of the caller, who plans to start the square dancing event just a little after eight. The squares will be f()rmed in the drive in front of the cot ~age. There will be three small combos, compose;l of students of the univer-sity, who will rotate the playing duties at the main house. They will provide free-style music for the round dancing to be held up there. Cider and doughnuts will be served at the house to carry out the theme of the evening. See Story on pare 8. Council has worked for several weeks on the plans, under the direction of Dr. Robert Whitney, the Dean of Music School. Dr. Whitney attended the Leadership Camp to <talk to the campus leaders about the proposed idea, and he met with a great deal of enthusiasm. Music School has made arrangements for ample parking facilities, as well as hosts for the evening, since many of the university have never been to Music School and might like to see it. Besides the :planned activities, the estate itself, with the formal gardens and large house, is well worth seeing. Decorations will also carry out the harvest theme. There will be fall leaves, corn stalks, and pumpkins to set the mood. The Music School Student Council, under the leadership of Shea Reynolds, its president, has worked hard to give the campus a night of fun and entertainment. All students of the unlversity are cordially invited to abtend and take part in the singing, dancing and eating at the "Harvest Moon Festival.'"'
