Description	This thesis proposes a concept called low-time-resolution (LTR) structure in music, and investigates its potential significance and application in music-related computing tasks. The contributions of the thesis are manifold. First, it proposes a detailed definition of such a concept, and tries to give it a meaningful function by tying it with various aspects of musical perception. Second, it reviews studies in many of the music related computing tasks today, and suggests how their methodologies could be refined and improved through the incorporation of LTR concepts. Third, two specific fields of application: computer assisted composition and music information retrieval, are studied in more detail to offer specific ideas of improvement in certain components of those systems. Also, the connection to existing schools of music theory is studied.
