| Description | Owned by Baton Rouge & Bayou Sara Packet Co., GOLDEN EAGLE, a stern-wheel packet with wood hull (175 ft. x 35 ft. x 5.2 ft.), operated on the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. Originally built in 1904 by Howard Shipyard in Jeffersonville, Indiana as WM. GARIG (Way #5812) for Baton Rouge & Bayou Sara Packet Company, she was sold to Eagle Packet Company, renovated by Howard in 1918, renamed GOLDEN EAGLE and moved to St. Louis. She ran trade in the St. Louis area until the mid 1930s when she was converted to a tourist boat. GOLDEN EAGLE was sold twice after World War II and then sank at Grand Tower, Illinois on May 17, 1947. |
