| Description | LORETTA HOWARD, a stern-wheel towboat with steel hull (145 ft. x 30 ft. x 4.9 ft.), was built at Howard in 1929. Owned by Captain Jim Howard, LORETTA HOWARD operated on the Ohio River. She was launched by President Herbert Hoover on October 23, 1929, but Captain Howard could not find a buyer for this stock boat. In 1932, she was charted to Captain Birch McBride and renamed DOROTHY McBRIDE (Way T0631) but was returned to Howard in 1933. LORETTA HOWARD was sold to Captain D.W. Wisherd later that year and renamed D.W. WISHERD (Way T0553). She was dismantled in 1952. |
