It will surprise most of us to learn that the king has made up his mind that the Prince of Wales must go back to school and improve his training for the throne. We thought the Prince had finished his schooling, was very proficient in books and everything and was just gallivanting around waiting for his father to die. But the Prince's education is deficient-for a prince and a king-to-be. Why he called nucleus knuckles the other day in making a speech. Ivy At Rocky Ford, Miss. [photos] The above are three photographs telling the story of the burning at the stake of J. P. Ivy, a Negro timber cutter at Rocky Ford, Miss., last Sunday afternoon by a mob of blood thirsty American savages. A white girl was criminally assaulted in a pea field last Friday morning by an unknown. The girl said it was a Negro. The county sheriff organized a posse and captured Ivy, who denied the attack. He was taken to Tupelo, Miss. for safe keeping. Rocky Ford citizens went into court and obtained a writ forcing the sheriff to return Ivy to New Albany for identification. The girl was asked to identify Ivy Sunday Morning. She was not sure, but thought he looked like the one who attacked her. When asked if she would swear to it, she said she thought she would. The father of the girl expressed himself as being uncertain of the identification and that no hasty action would be taken by his friends and neighbors. The sheriff begged the mob leaders to wait until complete proof of guilty could be had, but they listened to nothing.Ivy was taken to the scene of the alleged crime where he was tied to a stake, brush piled around him and kerosene applied. Asked to confess he refused. He was beaten suspended from a rafter by the neck and mutilated with fire and knives, but he still maintained his innocence. It is said he [confessed?] before the fire was lighted, but it is also said that after the fire was lighted he screamed twice, denying his guilt, and then was silent. The first picture shows the mob scene in New Albany. Ivy is in auto at the left of the picture ready to be taken to jail by the sheriff, deputy and mob members have guns. Center picture shows Ivy and member of mob on platform at sawmill at Rocky Ford near lynching scene. The mob member told Ivy, "Stand up there and get your picture taken." He also got on the platform, and when told the picture was going to published said, "That's all right, go ahead." However no arrest has been made, the sheriff claiming that he was unable to identify any of the mob members. Note rope around Ivy's neck and chains. The third picture was taken just five minutes before Ivy was burned at stake. Ivy is indicated by arrow. 11 Race Members Charged With Murder In Detroit Riot.
