HALL TO RUN FOR JAILER OF CHRISTIAN COUNTY (Special to the Leader.) Hopkinsville, Ky., June 1.-- This week the local colored paper will carry the announcement of Alex Hall of Pembroke for Jailer of Christian County, and thereby a veritable bombshell will be thrown into the ranks of the Republican organization. Hall is a young and successful farmer, and hailed by his friends as fully competent to discharge the duties of the office of jailer. He will contest for the nomination against the incumbent, W. A. Nichols who is a white man. Christian County is overwhelmingly Republican, with Colored voters furnishing practically three-fourths of the Republican vote. Hitherto colored Republicans have not sought political offices, and of course their white friends have never offered them any of the "spoils." But times have changed with the advent of women into the political arena, who are following faithfully the leadership of the young men. The new element asks with all sincerity that pertinent and discomfiting question, "Where do we come in" Already Attorney C. W. Merriweather and Walter Robinson have thrown their hats into the ring for representative, and it is rumored that Prof. E. S. Foreman will also suffer himself to be drafted for that post. Youth and aggressiveness will meet age and official experience in the very interesting fight for magistrate being waged between Ned Lewis Turner and H. S. Smith. At this distance it looks as though Turner will defeat Smith for re-election to the position he holds by appointment from Gov. Morrow. Mr. Smith is quite a successful business man and has held some important positions, political and fraternal. Mr. Turner is also a successful business man, splendidly qualified and will be the beneficiary of the growing sentiment often expressed by the unbiased: "Give our competent young men a chance." Full Text | HALL TO RUN FOR JAILER OF CHRISTIAN COUNTY (Special to the Leader.) Hopkinsville, Ky., June 1.-- This week the local colored paper will carry the announcement of Alex Hall of Pembroke for Jailer of Christian County, and thereby a veritable bombshell will be thrown into the ranks of the Republican organization. Mr. Turner is also a successful business man, splendidly qualified and will be the beneficiary of the growing sentiment often expressed by the unbiased: "Give our competent young men a chance."
