Paragraphics Current News and Opinion (By X. Mabie Wright) Pedal, Not Capital, Punishment. The Mammoth's Cook Book. Nashville Condemns Mob. The Meanest Man. Ministers Strike at Hilarious Xmas. The K. N. E. A. and Kelly Miller. In ancient China they tortured prisoners to death by tickling the naked soles of their feet with straws. Now let those in this country who are opposed to electrocution get such a law as that passed. In other words let's substitute pedal punishment for capital punishment. The Mammoth Life Insurance Company has made its policy-holders a valuable present - a neat Cook book containing quite 400 recipes. Novel idea. But novel and unique things are not the result so much of chance as of thought. These are truisms. And here is another truism: Men, whatever their color or crime, ought not to be lynched. Any country that punishes by lynching has a dangerous weakness. It's an unusual but a timely message that the .Interdenominational .Ministerial Alliance broadcasted by dodgers a few days ago. We quote a part of the message: Christmas is not the season for drunkenness, card-playing, and dancing. It is a season for special sincere worship and thanksgiving, because of the greatest gift to the world - the Babe of Bethlehem. In view of the general hilarity and ungodly merry-making, and the absence of the true spirit of adoration now generally prevailing at Yuletide, we, the ministers of the Gospel, ask that the christian people throughout the city assist us to draw [illegible]e minds of the people back to the [illegible]g of the angels and the Christ of [illegible] manger. [illegible]his word to the good people of [Louis?]ville makes its own comment and [illegible]s on its own feet.
