FORMER CREDIT MANAGER CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING GIRL Home Society Head Attracts Citizens To Serious Case; Mass Meeting Tomorrow President O. Singleton of the National Home Finding Society supported by a large number of citizens, has filed charges against W. Earl Smith, a white man who was credit manager of one of Louisville's leading dry goods stores, for the alleged assault and continuous association with a sixteen year old colored girl, which communicated to the girl the ailment which is now upon her. The girl has told all, which brings to the surface startling and shocking revelations. The girl had been a maid in the Home Finding Society for a number of years and was put into the Smith home to be used in the same capacity. According to Mr. Singleton she was applied for and secured under false pretenses, and after being placed with the family was made to suffer contacts and associations unfit for publication. A citizens' committee has been formed, with Mr. B. S. Winlock as chairman, and the charges against Smith are to be pushed to the limit. A big mass meeting is to be held at the Mt. Lebanon Bapti st church tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock, of which Rev. V. W. McLawler is the pastor, and all persons willing to give their moral support to to the honorable fight leaders of the race are making for the right, justice and fair play, Negroes, men, women, girls and boys are entitled to, as are all other peoples, are urged to be present.
