SMILING HAPPILY MRS. JOE LOUIS Smiling happily, Miss Marva Trotter is shown holding a picture of Joe Louis, the man she married Tuesday night, three hours before he stepped into the ring and knocked out Max Baer. The fighter's managers raved, swore, tore their hair and yelled in shrill voices that it simply couldn't be done, because it would excite Joe too much. but it was done. Marva did it. She was happy and Joe wasn't excited.
MAX AND MRS. BAER When asked why he failed to get off one knee in the fourth round last Tuesday night, Max said, "I was knocked out. Listen, I couldn't see straight. I thought all Harlem was out there. I saw a whole ringful of black clouds and this little ray of sunshine just couldn't penetrate them. Louis is married and I hope he is happy as I am." Mrs. Baer, who was opposed to her husband's fighting, did not see the fight. She did not care to see Mr. Baer whipped. His defeat by Louis might have been a dark cloud with a silver lining for the young wife.
