Unseat Biased Solons Urges NAACP Defeat of Hostile Leaders Asked Denounces Both Political Parties For Failure To Support Civil Rights GRADUATES FROM MEHARRY MEDICAL COLLEGE Daniel Earl Smith, the son of Mr. Paul and Mrs. Lucy Hart Smith of Lexington, Ky., was a recent graduate of Meharry Medical College as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He was elected by his classmates at the most outstanding student of his class and won six prizes and honors for scholarship, excellence in clinical dentistry, attaining the highest average in all technical work during his four academic years. In addition he was elected to Kappa Sigma Pi Honor Fraternity and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Fraternity. Accompanied by his wife, the former Miss Isabel Richardson, and his daughter Brenda, Dr. Smith will leave soon for Camp Custer, Mich., where he will serve as dental officer. Williams Negro Educators In NEA Meet School Awards Opened To All Negro Lobbyist for White Group CITY PRAISED FOR HOSPITALITY The National Baptist Sunday School and B. T. U. Congress brought its meeting here in Louisville to a close on Sunday, June 25, with the awarding of certificates to various departments. Many of the delegates and officials of the organization gave the people of Louisville high praise for their hospitality. Commenting upon reception given to the members of the Congress, Dr. D. V. Jemison, president of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., said, "Every delegate here has had a good home. Every thing has been done to make our stay here a happy one." "Louisville is one of the finest cities in America," beamed Dr. Thomas S. Harten, Brooklyn, N. Y., vice president of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., and Executive Director of the Interracial Goodwill Association of the State of New York. "I must say," he continued, "your city is noted for its aggressive Negro citizens and their kindness to us during our Congress helped us to make it the fin est, the most successful, and most encouraging one we have ever had." MRS. LUCY HART SMITH LEAVES FOR WASHINGTON Mrs. Lucy Hart Smith was called to Washington Saturday by Mrs. Mary McCleod Bethune for a meeting of the Executive Counsil of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. The committee will select a successor to the late Dr. Carter G. Woodson, organizer and former director of the association. On Tour [photo] Rev. James A. Greene, former secretary of the Lexington Y.M.C.A., is now touring the country as an evangelist, appearing at Howard University, Hampton Institute, Lincoln University, Virginia State, and other leading colleges. Hampton Grad Works in Japan NEGROES OF LEXINGTON TO RECEIVE EQUAL HOUSING UNITS Lexington.- Negroes of this city will receive equal number of housing units as whites upon construction of the proposed 600 units according to reports received by the Leader office. The decision was made at a meeting of the Lexington Municipal Housing Commission. With the additional 600 units Lexington will have a total of 1270 units, 635 each for Negro and white occupants. At present the units total 670 with 342 for Negroes and 328 for whites. What this country needs badly is more humor on the part of the so-called humorists. Policy Against Bias Sought of AMA Ban Against Negroes Cited Organization Requested to Issue Statement Against Discrimination Houston Given Spingarn Medal NAACP Moves to Ban Communist Activity
