Description
A young girl and a boy , wearing overalls and apparently missing his right leg , walk with crutches next to a tobacco barn in the mountains , probably in eastern Kentucky . A woman wearing a bonnet dries out the tobacco leaves as a man wearing a hat approaches . The children were likely selected for treatment at Stephenson orthopedic hospital in Ashland , Kentucky , by Dr . Arthur Shade Jones , eastern head of the Kentucky Crippled Children Commission .
