Description
Charles Morehead Thomas was born in 1847 in Bowling Green , Kentucky . He attended the common schools of Warren County , Kentucky , but was caught up in the turmoil of the Civil War , joining the Confederate Army as a youth . After the war he returned to his studies , and in 1868 , he started a drug store in Bowling Green . In 1871 , he read law and joined the bar . He served as city attorney and city court judge , but in 1886 accepted an appointment by President Grover Cleveland as circuit court judge in the Territory of South Dakota , serving until 1894 when his health failed . He died in Chicago in 1895 . He was buried in Fairview Cemetery in his home town of Bowling Green .
