Description	William Walter Cleary was born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1831. He was an 1849 graduate of Transylvania University and in 1849, graduated from its law department with honors. In 1852, he was admitted to the bar and settled in Cynthiana, Kentucky. In 1856, he was elected attorney of Harrison County, Kentucky, and served for four years. He represented Harrison County in the Kentucky General Assembly. During the Civil War, he engaged in diplomacy for the Confederate States. After the war, he returned home to Cynthiana and was elected county judge. In 1873, he was elected commonwealth attorney of the judicial district comprising the counties of Bracken, Campbell, Harrison, Kenton, Pendleton and Robertson. He died in Covington, Kentucky, in 1897.
