Description
Three-quarter length photogravure portrait of famous opera singer Fritzi Scheff wearing a hat , cape , and muff . Born August 30 , 1879 in Vienna , Austria , Scheff gave a command performance for Queen Victoria in 1900 (at age 21) , and was decorated . She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1900 as Marcelina in "Fidelio " and appeared at Macauley's Theatre six times from 1907-1919 . She died April 8 , 1954 in New York City . Inscription on print , lower right : Yours very sincerely Fritzi Scheff . Location of photo studio : New York (N.Y.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
