Title	Atlas of the City of Louisville, 1876.

Description	Maps, on a scale of 200 feet per inch, of "every lot or parcel of ground" in the central area of Louisville, Kentucky in 1876, including details such as precise dimensions, owners' names, building materials (wood vs. brick) and whether structures were public or private. The maps were prepared by the Louisville Abstract & Loan Association, an organization formed by the Kentucky Legislature to provide abstracts of titles for real estate transfers. The maps were based on land surveys as well as analyses of existing real estate documents and court records. The Association, with offices on the southeast corner of Green & Center Streets, Louisville, Kentucky, sold each map for $1 per copy to subscribers and, in conjunction with John P. Morton & Co., offered to include the title page, preface, index and binding for an additional $1. There were to be nineteen maps, but according to an editor's note "only the outline map and the first six maps were ever produced." This copy has only the cover, title page, preface and first six maps. It does not have the outline map of the "whole city and suburbs."
