Description
Smokestacks on both sides of the Ohio River spew large clouds of smoke into the sky near the almost completed Municipal Bridge crossing the Ohio River between Louisville and Jeffersonville , Indiana , in a 1929 late afternoon view . Several unidentified buildings appear in the foreground of the photograph . The Municipal Bridge , also called the Second Street Bridge , opened in October 1929 . It was formally renamed the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge in 1949 in honor of the founder of the city of Louisville .
