Title	Mary Hill School, Louisville, Kentucky, 1930.
Description	Mary Hill School, Sixth & Kentucky Streets, Louisville, Kentucky. Square, three-story brick building having a flat roof with small pediments on the front and side. Over the door is written, "Mary D. Hill School." A white picket fence surrounds the property. Along the brick sidewalk at right, a number of small grade school age children are walking towards the camera. There are tiny white spots of paint everywhere on the photograph. The school was originally named the Central Colored School and established in 1870 for African American students. It became the Central Colored High School and moved to Ninth Street and Magazine Street in 1894. The original building at Sixth Street and Kentucky Street, which was designed by J. B. McElfatrick and Sons, became an elementary school and was named Sixth Street School. It was renamed Mary D. Hill School in 1917, in honor of the supervisor of public kindergartens.
