Scalloped shield with a dragon on it . Above the shield is a knight's helmet and large ornamental flourishes . Above the helmet is the phrase "Ex Libris. " Below the design inside a rectangular frame is the text "Gustave Arvilien Breaux 1828-1910 " and "The Breaux Collection Southwestern Louisiana Institute. " Founded as Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute in 1900 , the school became the Southwestern Louisiana Institute in 1921 . The name was changed to the University of Southwest Louisiana in 1960 . Since 1999 , it has been the University of Louisiana at Lafayette . Black ink . Signed Ainslie Hewett with four-digit year .
