" "University of Louisville Kentucky " surrounds the image in a circular frame . Two decorative elements hang from either side of the seal . Below the seal are the phrase "Presented by" and a blank space . The University of Louisville was formed when the Louisville Medical Institute (LMI) , Louisville College (formerly the Louisville Collegiate Institute) , and a newly created law school were combined in 1846 . As of 2008 , the university had the following schools and colleges : Arts & Sciences , Business , Dentistry , Education & Human Development , Graduate School , Kent School of Social Work , Brandeis School of Law , Medicine , Music , Nursing , Public Health & Information Sciences , and Speed School of Engineering . The university libraries are William F . Ekstrom Library , Margaret M . Bridwell Art Library , Dwight Anderson Music Library , Kornhauser Health Sciences Library , University Archives & Records Center , and the Law Library , which is part of the Brandeis School of Law .
