Description |
Stern wheeler JOHN K. SPEED on the Ohio River near Howard Shipyard in Port Fulton (now Jeffersonville), Indiana. JOHN K. SPEED, a stern wheel packet with a wood hull (261 ft. x 42 ft. x 8 ft.) was built in Madison, Indiana in 1892. Owned by Cincinnati, Memphis & New Orleans Packet Company, she operated on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers between Cincinnati and New Orleans. JOHN K. SPEED sank and was raised three times, including once just about the falls of the Ohio at Louisville on April 9, 1899. She burned at New Orleans on May 22, 1902. |
