Description	Stern and port side of GREY EAGLE, almost complete, sitting with steam up, at the bank of Ohio River at Howard Shipyard. GREY EAGLE, a side-wheel packet with wood hull (250 ft. x 40 ft. x 5.5 ft.), was built by Howard in 1892. Owned by Eagle Packet Company in St. Louis, she operated on the Mississippi River between St. Louis and Peoria initially, and later between St. Louis and Cape Commerce, and made occasional runs to Vicksburg while under charter to the Anchor Line. This boat, at least the tenth steamer named Grey Eagle, welcomed President Theodore Roosevelt to St. Louis in October, 1907 and participated in a parade accompanying President William Howard Taft down the Mississippi in October, 1909. In 1910, she began running excursions out of St. Louis and was lost in ice at Paducah, Kentucky in January, 1918.
