Description |
Stern and port side of H.S. CHAMBERLAIN, at the bank of Ohio River at Howard Shipyard. H.S. CHAMBERLAIN, a stern-wheel towboat with wood hull (140 ft. x 30 ft. x 4 ft.), was built by Howard in 1911. Owned by Roane Iron Company, H.S. CHAMBERLAIN operated on the Tennessee River. She was sold, renamed WEBER (Way T2623) and moved to Evansville, Indiana in 1929. She was sold again in 1931, reportedly for $40,000, renamed J.C. RAWN (Way T1236), and moved to Huntington, West Virginia. Three people were killed and the boat was demolished when her two boilers exploded on December 7, 1939. |
