Description
A group of young girls wearing hoop skirts , petticoats , and bonnets poses beneath a historical marker reading "Johnston Birthplace / Near here on February 3 , 1803 , General Albert Sidney Johnston , Confederate leader , was born . He resigned from the U.S . Army in 1861 to join the South . Killed at Shiloh , April 6 , 1862 . / Kentucky Department of Highways / 91. " This marker , number 91 , is located on Main Street in Old Washington , Kentucky . Two African-American girls in contemporary dress stand next to them, and a larger crowd is visible behind them. Title supplied by cataloger .
