Description	Address: 618 S. Fourth Street (Building no longer exists.) The Majestic opened as a vaudeville theater in 1908. Beyond that fact, however, its history is far less certain. The most commonly stated version is that the 1908 theater was torn down and replaced on the same site in 1912 by a new Majestic built exclusively for the showing of motion pictures. Reviewing the extant photographs, however, it seems more likely that the 1912 changes were major exterior and interior renovations to the original. In any case, the Joseph & Joseph-designed 1912 theater, its barrel-vaulted entrance illuminated by hundreds of electric lights, its cartouches, glazed tile and other decoration was as much a part of the attraction as was the current showing. The elaborate design of the Majestic's exterior was intended to entice passers-by into paying the price of admission. The signs in front of the Majestic advertise "The Puppet Crown" a Paramount picture. Handwritten on back: Majestic Theater / 616 S. 4th.
