Atherton
Building
would have been a
project
started
while
Alfred
S
.
Joseph
was
still
serving
as
chief
architect
and
engineer
for the
firm
of
McDonald
&
Dodd
. The
building
is
an
example
of the
major
influence
that
Joseph
&
Joseph
was to have on the
character
of what
became
"
downtown
"
Louisville
as
it
changed
from an
area
of
small
shops
and
residences
to
one
dominated
by
retail
and
office
spaces
. The
building
contained
the
Mary
Anderson
Theater
, the
first
of
many
designed
by the
Josephs
. This
photograph
shows
the
building
with
canopied
windows
on the
first
level
and
numerous
signs
lettered
just
above
,
