vaudeville
theater
by the
National
Theater
Company
in
1913
, the
design
came
from the
architectural
workshop
of
Albert
Kahn
. The
National
Theater
was
sold
within
the
year
to the
B.F
.
Keith
chain
.
Extensively
altered
both
inside
and
out
by
Joseph
&
Joseph
,
it
reopened
in
1914
,
still
as a
vaudeville
house
, but
soon
began
to
show
motion
pictures
.
It
operated
until
1952
,
continuing
its
mixed
bookings
of
musical
and
comedy
reviews
along
with
movies
.
Seating
twenty-eight
hundred
,
it
was
one
of
Louisville's
largest
theaters
. This
interior
shot
shows
the
theatre's
multi-level
seating
including
box-seats
. The
stage
has a
painted
backdrop
and an
organ
in
front
of
it
.
