Chestnut
street
building
served
the
Salvation
Army
with
office
space
,
short-term
living
quarters
and
social
services
facilities
in a
single
location
.
It
resembles
a
Joseph
&
Joseph-designed
suburban
apartment
building
more
than
it
does
the
unornamented
red
brick
facades
typical
of
such
facilities
. The
three
story
building
has
stone
steps
leading
up
to the
entry
. The
building
is
brick
with
sculpted
tops
to the
window
frames
. A
shield
pattern
is
repeated
throughout
and the
top
of the
building
includes
twin
shields
with the
letters
S
and A
intertwined
. A
sign
propped
on the
building
reads
, "The
Young
People's
Legion
every
Sunday
6
P.M
.
/
Meeting
in the
Basement
to
night.
" There
is
a
sidewalk
in
front
of the
building
and then a
brick
street
with
trolley
tracks
.
