Description
Peter B . Muir was born in Nelson County , Kentucky , in 1822 . He was orphaned at an early age and raised by his paternal grandfather , Dr . William Muir . After an early education in the country schools of Nelson county , he attended Hanover College . After graduation , he purchased the library of Judge J . D . Nourse of Bardstown and read for the bar . He was licensed to practice law , establishing an office in Bardstown in 1846 . In 1852 , he moved his practice to Louisville . In 1857 he was elected circuit judge . He was re-elected but resigned before his term was over to accept the office of judge of the court of common pleas for Jefferson county . After four years , he again resigned and resumed the practice of law . Throughout his career , Muir frequently taught in law department of the University of Louisville . Muir died at age 80 in 1911 .
