Description
Willis Overton Harris was born in 1847 in Powhatan County , Virginia . He entered Virginia Military Institute in 1863 and fought in the Civil War with VMI cadet corps until wars end , receiving an honorary degree in 1867 . He attended University of Virginia from 1866 to 1868 . He then moved to Louisville and was licensed to practice law , eventually gaining recognition as a leading attorney . He served for a number of years as judge of the Chancery Court . He taught law at the University of Louisville from 1886-1890 , serving as dean from 1890 until his death in 1911 . He was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery .
