Description
Madison Conyers Johnson was born September 21 , 1806 in Fayette County , Kentucky to one of the states pioneer families . His grandfather , Robert Johnson , represented the District of Kentucky in the Virginia Assembly in 1782 and was a member of the Constitutional Conventions of 1792 and 1799 . Madison C . Johnson was a graduate of Transylvania University and he read law under Martin D . Hardin and Robert Wickliffe . He was admitted to the bar in 1825 and established a practice in Lexington . He was appointed Attorney General of Kentucky in 1849 . He was commissioned along with James Harlan and J.W . Stevenson by the Kentucky legislature to draft a code of practice for civil and criminal cases which the body adopted in 1854 . He was a professor at the law college of the Kentucky Agricultural and Mechanical College and a founder of the Lexington Cemetery . He died in 1886 and buried in the Lexington Cemetery .
