Description	Character portrait of left profile of actor William L. Abingdon in costume for the role of in "The Devil" which he performed at Macauley's Theatre in November 1908. He is seated with left hand in white glove forming a fist, and wears a white tie and tails and devilish eyebrows. Abingdon was born May 2, 1859 in Towcester, England, and died May 17, 1918 in New York City. He also appeared at Macauley's Theatre in "The Yellow Ticket" in November 1914. The inscription to "The Club" likely refers to the "Chili Con Carne Club" which was a men's poker group spearheaded by Macauley. Inscription on mount, lower center: "The Club" with many thanks for the delightful hospitality. Wm. Abingdon. 1908. Location of photo studio: Philadelphia (Pa.). Title supplied by cataloger.
