Title	Digby Bell.

Description	Full-length character portrait of comedic actor Digby Bell wearing white tie and tails. His receding hairline forms a tuft at the crown of his head and is powdered white at the temples, next to his whiskers, and his thick eyebrows appear to be pasted on. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1849, Bell died June 20, 1917 in New York City. Digby Bell starred in productions of "Lawn Tennis" (October 1880); "The Tar and the Tartar" (March 1892); "The Grand Duchess" and "La Perichole" (February 1895); "A Midnight Bell" (February 1897); and "The Education of Mr. Pipp" (September 1905 and December 1906) at Macauley's Theatre. Inscription on print, lower left: To my esteemed friend John Macauley with best wishes of Digby Bell. Location of photo studio: Philadelphia (Pa.). Title supplied by cataloger.
