Full-length character portrait of performer Marguerite (or Marguerita) Sylva , a soprano who was born July 10 , 1875 , in Brussels , Belgium , and died February 21 , 1957 , in Glendale , California . Here, she stands before a backdrop of a stone staircase , wearing a long white dress and large hat tied beneath her chin . She starred at Macauley's Theatre in "Princess Chic " in 1901 , and in "Miss Bob White " and "The Strollers " in 1902 . Inscription on print , right : To dear Mr . Macauley .
