Description
Portrait of actor Henry Woodruff wearing a suit jacket , striped vest , and patterned tie . Woodruff was born in Hartford , Connecticut in 1869 and graduated from Harvard University . He appeared in four productions at Macauley's Theatre between 1900 and 1909 : "When We Were Twenty-one " (with Nat Goodwin) in October 1900 ; "The Genius and the Model " (October 1905) ; "Brown of Harvard " (April 1908) , and "The Prince of Tonight " (September 1909) . His inscription to Col . Macauley references the "Chili Con Carne Club " which was a men's poker group spearheaded by Macauley . Inscription on print , lower center : "Sempir idem"(?) for the chili club . Health & success . Henry Woodruff , Sept , '09 . Location of photo studio : Chicago (Ill.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
