Three-quarter length portrait of actress Gertrude Coghlan (also known as Gertrude Coghlan Pitou , following her marriage to Gus Pitou , Jr.) with hand on hip , wearing a hat with ostrich plume , long dress , and white gloves . She was born circa 1879 in Hertfordshire , England , and died September 11 , 1952 , in New York City . She appeared at Macauley's Theatre in "Colinette " and "Vanity Fair " (January 1902) and "The Lion and the Mouse " (February 1907) . Inscription on print , lower center : To John Macauley , Sincerely yours , Gertrude Coghlan . Location of photo studio : Louisville (Ky.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
