Portrait of actor Louis James seated with hands clasped , wearing a suit and tie . Born in Illinois in 1842 , James made twelve appearances at Macauley's Theatre between 1879 and 1908 , performing mostly Shakespearean plays , including "The Merry Wives of Windsor " in February 1907 . He died in 1910 . Inscription on print , upper left : To John McAuley - Best wishes of Louis James . Feb . 15-1907 . Location of photo studio : New York (N.Y.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
