Description	Character portrait of actress Blanche Bates wearing a wide-brimmed hat festooned with feathers, a white dress, and long white gloves. Born to theatrical parents in Portland, Oregon, on August 25, 1873, Bates appeared at Macauley's Theatre four times between 1910 and 1922, including a January 1910 performance of "The Fighting Hope" at which time she likely inscribed this portrait to Colonel Macauley. She married twice, first to Milton F. Davis and then to George Creel. She died December 25, 1941, in San Francisco, California. Inscription on print, lower right: For Col. Macauley in remembrance of the pleasant stay in Louisville. Sincerely, Blanche Bates, 1910. Location of photo studio: New York (N.Y.). Title supplied by cataloger.
