Full-length character portrait of soprano Emma Abbott wearing a dress with embroidered patterns . Abbott led the Emma Abbott Grand [English] Opera Company , which performed at Macauley's Theatre eleven times between March 1880 and November 1889 . Her inscription may have been to Rachel Macauley , daughter of John T . Macauley . Although it is dated 1881 , the company did not perform at Macauley's that year , although they did appear in January 1882 . Inscription on mount verso : To my darling little Rachel - with love from Emma Abbott . 1881 . Location of photo studio : New York (N.Y.)
