Portrait of actor , director , and lyricist Richard F . Carroll (also known as R . F . Carroll) wearing a tuxedo jacket with white bow tie . Carroll , born in Boston , Massachusetts on October 27 , 1865 , starred in three productions at Macauley's Theatre : "The Rounders " (January 1900) ; "The Maid and the Mummy " (January 1905) , likely the occasion of this portrait's inscription ; and "The Serio-Comic " (January 1906) . He died June 26 , 1925 in New York City . Inscription on print , lower center : To my "uncle " John Macauley with fond remembrance of Louisville . Richard F . Carroll 1905 .
