Description
Full-length character portrait of actress Rachel Booth (1862-1955) standing on a stage set of an elegant home , wearing a white bonnet and polka-dot dress and holding a wringer and iron as if in the process of doing laundry . Booth married actor James T . Powers (1862-1943) in 1892 , so this portrait must pre-date her marriage . An inscription on another portrait of Booth wearing this same costume indicates that this may relate to a role in "The Ratcatcher " (a version of "The Pied Piper of Hamelin") , which was performed by the Kiralfy Brothers ' Company at Macauley's Theatre in April and September 1886 . Inscription on mount verso , upper center : Sincerely yours Rachel Booth . Location of photo studio : Chicago (Ill.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
