Character portrait of Edwin Booth in Shakespearean costume , possibly for a role as Hamlet . His hair is curly , and he wears a dark tunic . Edwin Booth , born November 13 , 1833 , was a performer , producer , and theatre owner/operator . He managed the Winter Garden theatre (1863-1867) , and built Booth's Theatre after it burnt down . He came from a theatrical family , with brothers Junius Brutus Booth , Jr . and John Wilkes Booth (more famous for assassinating President Abraham Lincoln) also joining the profession . Twice married , to Mary Devlin from 1860-1863 , and Mary McVicker (beginning in 1869) , he starred in six productions at Macauley's Theatre between April 1874 and February 1887 . He died June 7 , 1893 . Location of photo studio : New York (N.Y.)
