Oval-shaped portrait of performer W . H . Crompton wearing a three-piece suit with white bow tie and eyeglasses attached to a buttonhole . Crompton starred in "Lady Rose's Daughter " at Macauley's Theatre in October 1903 , and played with Julia Marlowe in "Romeo and Juliet " and "Much Ado About Nothing " in March 1905 . He also performed with Robert Mantell in November 1907 in "King Richard III " (as Lord Stanly , Earl of Derby) ; "Macbeth " (as Duncan , King of Scotland) ; "The Merchant of Venice " (as Duke of Venice) ; and "King Lear " (as Earl of Gloster) .
