Three-quarter length seated portrait of performer Thomas Jefferson leaning his chin on his left hand , wearing a suit jacket and pin-striped pants . Thomas Jefferson , a fourth-generation actor , was born ca. 1857 in New York City , the son of Joseph Jefferson III and Margaret Lockyer Jefferson . He performed the role of Rip Van Winkle , made famous by his father , at Macauley's Theatre three times : April 1906 , October 1906 , and September 1907 . He died April 2 , 1932 , in Hollywood , California . Location of photo studio : Boston (Mass.)
