Photogravure of full-length character portrait of Maxine Elliott wearing a hat with ostrich plume , long dress , and muff . Actress , producer , and theatre owner Maxine Elliott was born Jessie Dermot in Rockland , Maine on February 5 , 1868 . She debuted on stage in 1890 , taking the stage name Maxine Elliott . She married and divorced two husbands , one of whom was fellow actor Nat C . Goodwin (whose name she sometimes used off-stage) . She starred in nine productions at Macauley's Theatre between March 1897 and January 1907 , retired from the stage in 1920 , and died March 5 , 1940 , in Juan les Pins , France . Inscription on print , lower right : Yours sincerely Maxine Elliott . Location of photo studio : New York (N.Y.) . Title supplied by cataloger .
