Full-length character portrait of soprano Alice Nielsen standing in front of a set backdrop of a tree , wearing a long white dress and admiring a tree bough she holds before her. Nielsen was born in Nashville , Tennessee on June 7 , 1876 , and died March 8 , 1943 in New York City . With manager Frank L . Perley , she led the Alice Nielsen Opera Company in the late nineteenth century , and appeared with the San Carlo Opera Company , ca. 1900 - 1910 . She appeared at Macauley's Theatre in "The Singing Girl " (January 28 , 1901) , "The Fortune Teller " (January 29 , 1901) , "Don Pasquale " (April 9 , 1906) , and, with the San Carlo Opera Company , "The Barber of Seville " (February 13 , 1907) and a series of operas (January 7-9 , 1915) . Location of photo studio : New Orleans (La.)
