Character portrait of actor Robert McWade in costume for the role of Simonides in "Ben Hur " which was produced at Macauley's Theater in March 1905 . He wears a turban and a stern expression . Robert McWade Jr . was born in Buffalo , New York on June 17 , 1872 and died on January 19 , 1938 in Culver City , California . He first performed at Macauley's Theatre in "Rip Van Winkle " "Rory O'More ", and "Richard III " (the latter in Dutch) on February 15-20 , 1875 . Inscription on print : For Mr . John Macauley of the Old School--Robt . McWade Jr . Mar 25-05 . Location of photo studio : Milwaukee (Wis.)
