Title	Palace of Fine Arts, Chicago, Illinois, circa 1893.
Creator	Matlack, Claude Carson, 1878-1944 (collector)
Description	A large institutional building located on a small waterway as seen from a nearby bridge or shore. Five flags are flying from the building. Small ferry and sight-seeing boats are passing by. It appears to be the Palace of Fine Arts constructed for the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893. The structure was subsequently home to the Field Museum (1894-1920) before it was rebuilt to house the Museum of Science and Industry. Although Claude C. Matlack was only 14 at the time of the exposition, this photograph appears to be from that time period, because the earliest depictions of the Field Museum do not include the flags. Title supplied by cataloger.
