Description	Woodblock prints, all signed "Hartwell" from left to right starting at top left: Scene of Sierra-Leone, with black man pointing lion out to two white men holding guns; group of black men, overseen by white man in safari garb, rowing boat past hippopotami; "Abd-El-Kader" possibly an alternate transliteration of Muslim name Abdul Qadir or Abd al-Qadir II, a ruler of the Kingdom of Sennar (Sudan) in the early 17th century; men on horseback accompanied by men holding guns; number 16; man on horseback accompanied by men carrying spears, approaching group of apparently unarmed people; bearded white man wearing wide-brim hat leaning on rifle, looking out at mountain range gestured to by two turban-wearing black men; group of men in city square, one wearing toga, one holding lead for chariot, one wearing centurion helmet; scene of "Bornou" [Central African Republic], with man in cage guarded by turbaned men with spears; scene of "Central Africa" with man with spear and man with bow and arrow hunting hippopotamus; "Sophonisba" Carthaginian [now Tunisian] noblewoman, wearing crown, seated near lute, being attended by servant handing her a goblet; scene of "Western Africa" with people waiting on shore and ships arriving and departing; men bow before turban-wearing man on horse, accompanied by men carrying swords and shields; one man seated and one man on horseback with spears and shield, watching ship approach shore.
