Woodblock prints of, from left to right starting at top left : men with plumed hats holding swords and men with helmets holding spears looking over valley at distant mountain range , from which smoke signals emanate ; man sitting outdoors with books and paper near mountain topped with flag - possibly a surveyor ? - signed "Hartwell "; goats , seated man , standing man holding pails of water , standing woman , and child carrying basket on head ; swans , ducks , and geese on pond and flying in formation ; scene of "Madagascar " signed "Hartwell " with ship , vegetation , and crocodile ; scene of "Canary Islands " signed "Hartwell " with ships on water and mountain in background ; number 16 ; scene of "Eastern Africa " signed "Hartwell " featuring three men wearing different tribal costumes and carrying different weapons , and two women in different costumes , one carrying a pitcher of water on her head ; scene of "Madeira " signed "Hartwell " with woman wearing pointed cap and dress with short cape and corset bodice ; battle scene , signed "Hartwell " occurring on ledges over ocean ; tribal dance , signed "Hartwell " including feathered headdress , gourds , and tambourine ; black man bearing spear kneels before seated and standing white men , signed "Hartwell.
